Configuring CentroBot in Slack
Overview
CentroBot lets you interact with Salesforce data directly from Slack using natural language. Once configured, you can ask questions about Salesforce records and receive answers in Slack, based on your individual Salesforce permissions.
This article explains how to enable CentroBot, configure your Salesforce connection, activate MCP servers, and start asking questions.
Prerequisites
Before configuring CentroBot, ensure you have:
Access to the Centro app in your Slack workspace.
A Salesforce connection configured through the Centro automation user.
Access to Salesforce Setup to activate MCP servers, if they are not already active.
Your individual Salesforce credentials to authenticate your connection.
Appropriate Salesforce permissions for the records and objects you want to access.
Step 1: Enable CentroBot in Slack
Open the Centro app in your Slack workspace.
Navigate to Centro AI Settings.
Enable CentroBot and the option to use CentroBot in direct messages (DMs), as applicable.
Select the MCP server you want CentroBot to use.
Important: The available MCP servers depend on the Salesforce connection configured for the Centro automation user. Only servers available through that connection will appear in the Centro app.
If the MCP server you need is not listed, see Step 5 to activate it in Salesforce.
Step 2: Authenticate Your Salesforce Connection
CentroBot uses your individual Salesforce permissions to determine which data you can access. You must authenticate as yourself, even when the MCP server is configured through the Centro automation user.
-
In Centro AI Settings, choose the appropriate Salesforce login option:
Log in to Production for your Salesforce production environment.
Log in to Sandbox for a Salesforce sandbox environment.
Complete the Salesforce authentication process using your own account.
Confirm that the connection is authorized.
CentroBot uses your individual permissions when answering questions about Salesforce data. The automation user's connection makes the MCP server available; it does not replace your individual authorization.
Step 3: Configure Optional Data Sources and Web Search
CentroBot supports additional configuration options that can expand the context available when asking questions.
Connect Slack
If you want CentroBot to use information available to you in Slack:
Enable the Slack MCP server checkbox in Centro AI Settings, if available.
Select the option to log in to Slack.
Complete the authentication process.
This allows CentroBot to access supported Slack information that is available to you.
Enable Web Search
To allow CentroBot to use web search when answering questions:
Locate the web search option in Centro AI Settings.
Select the checkbox to enable it.
Enable only the data sources and capabilities appropriate for your organization's requirements.
Step 4: Save Your Settings and Test CentroBot
After configuring your connections:
Click Save in Centro AI Settings.
Navigate to Centro messages in Slack.
Start a conversation with CentroBot.
Enter a natural language question.
For example:
Prompt: "Please show me my open leads."
CentroBot processes the question and returns an answer in the Slack conversation thread.
Try a few questions relevant to your role to confirm that the connection is working and that the expected Salesforce information is returned.
Step 5: Activate Salesforce MCP Servers
If the MCP server you need is not available in Centro AI Settings, you may need to activate it in Salesforce.
Log in to Salesforce.
Open Setup.
In Quick Find, search for
MCP.Select MCP Servers.
Open the MCP server you want to use.
Select the option to activate the server.
Repeat these steps for any additional MCP servers you want to make available through Centro.
Understanding the SObject All Server
Salesforce provides multiple MCP server options. One example is SObject All, which supports creating, reading, updating, and deleting Salesforce records.
The operations available to CentroBot are still subject to the applicable server configuration, authentication, and Salesforce permissions. Ensure that you understand the capabilities of a server before enabling it for your users.
Once the server is active, return to Centro AI Settings and select it, if necessary.
Step 6: Enable Channel Context in Slack (Optional)
If you want CentroBot to use the context of the Slack channel in which you are working, you may need to reinstall the Centro Slack application.
After reinstalling, the Centro agent option should be available in the Slack interface.
To reinstall the application, use the Slack Marketplace or contact Centro for assistance.
