Renaming a Slack Channel Created by Centro

Overview

When you create a channel through Centro, each channel has a unique ID used for all automations and integrations. If you want to change the channel name for any reason (such as reflecting a different stage in a deal or updating a project name), you have three options to do so without breaking your existing automation.

1. Renaming via the Centro Live Link Component

    1.    Open the Centro Live Link Component: Locate the channel you want to rename in the Centro Live Link component within your Salesforce instance.

    2.    Click the Dropdown (Carrot) Next to the Channel Name: A small menu will appear.

    3.    Select “Rename Channel”: Enter the new name you want for your channel and confirm the change.

Tip: This method is convenient if you are already working in the Centro Live Link component and need a quick update.

2. Renaming Directly in Slack

    1.    Open Slack and Go to the Channel: Navigate to the channel you want to rename.

    2.    Click on the Channel Name: This opens the channel details menu.

    3.    Edit Channel Details: Select “Edit” (or “Channel settings”) to rename the channel to your desired name.

    4.    Save Changes: Your channel will appear with its updated name in Slack and any references from Centro automations will still work properly.

Note: Slack may temporarily display a notice in the channel about the name change, but this does not affect Centro’s automations.

3. Renaming Automatically Using Centro’s “Rename Conversation” Flow Element

    1.    Open Your Salesforce Flow: Create or edit a flow that includes Centro automation for naming or renaming channels.

    2.    Add the “Rename Conversation” Element: This specialized element lets you automate the channel rename process based on specific conditions (e.g., Opportunity is closed, or another Salesforce field changes).

    3.    Configure the Element:

    •    Channel ID: Populate the channel’s unique ID into the “Channel ID” field.

    •    New Channel Name: Specify the updated channel name in the appropriate text field within the flow.

    4.    Activate or Save the Flow: Once your flow is active, Centro will automatically rename the channel as defined by your criteria.

Example Use Case: When an opportunity’s status changes from “Negotiation” to “Closed Won,” the channel name can automatically update to reflect the new status, ensuring your Slack workspace stays organized in real time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will changing the channel name break my existing Centro automations?

No. Centro relies on the channel’s unique ID rather than the channel name, so any updates or automations you have in place will continue to function as expected.

Can I revert the name back to the original?

Yes. Simply follow any of the three methods above and type the original name back in.

Do these methods work for existing Slack channels?

Yes. Whether the channel was originally created by Centro or manually created in Slack, you can rename it without interrupting Centro’s automations (as long as you have the correct channel ID populated where needed).

Summary

You have three straightforward options for renaming a Slack channel created by Centro:

    1.    Via the Centro Live Link component (ideal if you’re already working within Salesforce and want a quick change).

    2.    Directly in Slack (helpful if you’re using Slack and need to rename on the fly).

    3.    Using Centro’s automated “Rename Conversation” flow element (great for automatically updating channel names based on Salesforce field or status changes).

Renaming your channel will not break any of your existing Centro-related workflows because Centro continues to identify the channel by its unique ID. This ensures your Slack workspace remains organized and reflects the most up-to-date information from Salesforce.
